It’s August!!! Already!? That’s crazy. Last week my dad was here to celebrate his birthday. Together we saw Neil Diamond in concert. (yes I was the youngest one in the entire stadium) But my dad is the biggest Neil Diamond fan you will ever meet. He sang every song at the top of his lungs! Luckily my dad has a good singing voice, otherwise I probably would not have enjoyed the concert so much.

Anyways, I am sure you are wondering what any of this has to do with fat-burners. I am getting there…
You see, my father (bless his heart) always wants to know the quickest and easiest way to lose fat (like all of us). While there are no easy short cuts to losing fat. There are some things you can do to assist your body in losing fat with daily exercise and a well balanced diet. One of those things is supplements. There are so many supplements on the shelves these days it’s a bit overwhelming. The two I will be discussing are called CLA & L-Carnitine my personal favorites. Together these two will contribute to fat loss in great ways!
Okay, the title of this blog is a bit deceiving only because CLA and L-Carnitine are not your typical fat burner. In fact I don’t recommend my clients or anybody to take a “fat-burner”. Most fat burners will help you lose weight, yes. But they will also come with side effects. A majority of fat burners have chemicals in them and many stimulants. So if you drink coffee or tea a lot, a fat burner can be very dangerous to your heart health. Another reason NOT to use fat burners: The FDA doesn’t evaluate or test most fat burners. Some manufacturers even add ingredients that are not written on the label!! (scary right?) Each year the FDA warns the public that there are dangerous undeclared ingredients in fat burners. One year the FDA found more than 20 fat burners contained dangerous ingredients. Why would you want to put something in your body that might have unclassified ingredients in them? Imagine this…. You have a friend bake you a cupcake. It’s chocolate with buttercream frosting, EXACTLY how you like it. Your friend secretly put dog poop in it without telling you because she heard from her great aunt’s, boyfriend’s, cousin, who once took a health class on the beaches of Bora Bora, that dog poop is healthy for you. You eat the cupcake anyways because you can’t taste the dog poop in it. I know that analogy is gross but its exactly what we are doing to our bodies when we don’t know what ingredients are in our foods or supplements.
So anyways, back to CLA and L-CARNITINE. The reason both of these are GOOD “fat burners” is because both are created naturally in our bodies. They aren’t derived from chemicals or mystery ingredients. They are both things you can find in natural occurring proteins. So i’ll break down these two to help better your understanding.
L-CARNITINE. This is found naturally in your body as an amino acid. Amino acids are what protein is made up of. (protein gives you muscles, more muscles = less fat). In fact your body specifically uses L- CARNITINE to get rid of fat cells. Not only that, L-CARNITINE boost your blood flow (circulation), supplies nutrients, improves your brain and nervous system functions, and it helps put your fat cells to good use, like energy! Who wants more energy without having to chug Red Bulls and coffee? I know I do! L-CARNITINE is also a great way to help your body recover from intense workouts. So while this product is GREAT for fat burning it also provides you a plethora of other health benefits.
CLA. CLA stands for Conjugated linoleic acid. CLA is found in things like beef and dairy products. (Don’t worry vegans, no animals were harmed in the making of CLA). So CLA was originally developed as a cancer fighting agent. It also has been proven to help control Type 2 Diabetes (the type caused by obesity) and prevent heart disease (the #1 cause of death in America). All of these diseases deal with obesity (Cancer is not specifically caused by obesity, that is another blog post in the making), which means CLA must obviously be great for assisting in fat loss. How does it work? Well just like L-CARNITINE is increases muscle mass which reduces fat mass.
So how do they work together? Together these supplements are the dynamic duo of fat loss. L-CARNITINE increases your energy so you can work longer and harder without the crash and fatigue. L-CARNITINE breaks down and moves fat as you’re exercising. CLA also breaks down the fat. The best part? When CLA is paired with L-CARNITINE is helps fat cells break down even faster! To gain all the benefits of these two products it’s important not to take more than the recommended dosage.
I hope that this blog post helped all of you. As you know I truly believe that the things we put into our bodies are the foundation of where our health comes from. Yes, genetics and environment all play a huge part as well. But when we can prevent diseases from coming (versus just treating them) why wouldn’t we? Taking care of our bodies is one of the most important things we can do. Cutting out pop, candy, and drinking more water are all great. But just like Christianity, you can’t read one Bible verse a day and expect to know God and be a good follower. You have to put in work, energy,and do more. The benefits will pay off! You’ll live a longer, happier, healthier life. With less doctor appointments and more fun memories.

- The fact that I am responsible for my own health. I have the power to decide wether or not I want to live a healthy life.
- Fat burners are great, and they can help a lot of people out. But fat burner or not I chose to love my body exactly how it is created, even if there is a little extra fat on it.
